THE BIRTH OF MALAYSIA MAKKAL SAKTI PARTY

Makkal Sakti! Makkal Sakti! the great rallying cry of the watershed 12th Malaysian General Elections made Indians relevant and significant again. Their stinging slogan of people’s power quickly found emotional ground and ready acceptance in the stirring hearts of all Malaysians. HINDRAF (Hindu Rights Action Force) was at the forefront of this seismic shift, rising from a murmuring groundswell and appealing to all Malaysians that there had to be another way, another basis, another alternative.
The Malaysia Makkal Sakti Party (MMSP) was meaningfully born of this great dynamic, metamorphosing from potent spirit to manifest action. It’s trajectory did not go unnoticed, and it was registered on the 11th of May 2009 as a Malaysian political party for all, but clearly drawing its base from Malaysian Indians. And clearly seeking to connect the power of the people to the leaders of the people, poetic in their song that the power of the leaders was ultimately drawn from the power of the people.
MMSP’s speedy registration is clear recognition of its formidable potential as an alternative for the distraught Malaysian Indian community. MMSP’s energy found a motivated and inspired President in R.S. Thanenthiran. An acute social Activist, he was the former National Co-ordinator of HINDRAF whilst their leaders were detained under the ISA and its Chairman was in self-exile in London. Thanenthiran’s unstinted and courageous leadership had continued to coalesce HINDRAF’s cacophony of disparate voices into an orchestrated drum-roll chorus of impassioned voices announcing in crisp harmony the exciting dawn of a new era in Malaysian politics.
MMSP has been tremendously supported by the people. The President and his dedicated team have amassed 50,000 members in a short span of time. Motion demands change, and MMSP’s message is the promise of a better future and service in the pursuit of social justice. Of distributive justice. Of economic betterment. Of equitable opportunity. Of spiritual and temporal empowerment. Of human rights. Of fairness and justice. Of education and cultural empathy. Of peace and communal harmony. Of growth and evolution. Of Nation-building. And of placing human dignity and the human personality in all equations.
MMSP is honoured to be officially launched on 10th October 2009 by our 6th former Prime Minister, Y.A.B. Dato Sri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak.
